Program Description

The Rehabilitation Counseling program offers students a balanced program of academic instruction and experiential learning opportunities.

Curriculum

The program's academic and experiential requirements may be completed within four semesters, including a one-semester, full-time internship. Students who wish to take additional courses to meet specialization requirements may elect to extend their programs of study by an additional semester.

The curriculum reflects the program's commitment to preparing professionals with a strong background in rehabilitation through academic courses in rehabilitation philosopy, theory, research, ethics, medical aspects, disability issues, and vocational evaluation and occupational analysis, coupled with field experiences through practicum and internship opportunities in the community.

Program Accreditation

The Rehabilitation Counseling Master's Program is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE).

CRC Certification

Graduates of this program are qualified to take the examination administered by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).

Practice Specializations

The program is designed to provide a firm grounding in counseling, disability-related issues, and vocational rehabilitation, while offering students the flexibility to customize the program to accommodate their individual interests or career plans. Students may elect to specialize their training through focused elective coursework and practicum and internship experiences. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded the Master of Health Science degree and are eligible to sit for the national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) examination. Students may pursue additional credentials in their field of specialization.

Students enrolled in the program have opportunities to participate with faculty in research or clinical services. The faculty strives to provide students with an educational experience characterized by personal attention and careful individualized planning.
