Rehabilitation Counseling

Rehabilitation Counseling (RC) is a division within the department of Behavioral Science and Community Health, housed within the College of Public Health and Health Professions.

Our Mission

Our trifold mission is to educate rehabilitation professionals, to conduct research in areas of rehabilitation and return-to-work, and to provide excellent clinical and consultation services to the University community and to the community at large. The profession of Rehabilitation Counseling is realizing new growth in the field of health care.

Trained Rehabilitation Counselors possess specialized knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to collaborate in professional relationships with people who have disabilities to achieve their personal, social, psychological and vocational goals. Through counseling, assessment, case management, research, advocacy, and continuing education, Rehabilitation Counseling is making a difference in the lives of others.

Program Goals

Value Statement on Tolerance & Diversity

The rehabilitation counseling profession is based on the belief in human dignity and on respect for the individual. Our faculty and staff members believe in and promote openness to and tolerance of differences in ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender, and disability status, as well as respect for differing personal, spiritual, religious, or political values.

As we share our personal beliefs inside or outside of the classroom, it is always with the understanding that we value and respect diversity of background, experience, and opinion. We further believe that embracing and celebrating such diversity enriches the quality of the educational experiences we provide our students and enhances our own personal and professional relationships.
